Getting more traffic is the lifeblood of every successful online marketing effort. You can get traffic through paid advertisements, search engine optimisation, social media and other opportunities. But organic traffic from the search engines is the best kind because the searchers are actively looking for the products and services that you sell.
We want our readers to thrive in 2015 and beyond. So we’ve decided to share three excellent tips that will help you increase the organic traffic to your website by making a few tweaks to the things that you are already doing.
1. Boost Rankings in Google by Answering Questions
If you’ve been paying attention to the search results on Google over the last year or so, you’ll notice that the site is starting to share information on the search page if you type in a question.
As an example, let’s say that you are going on a camping trip and you’d like to learn how to build a fire. Simply go to Google and type in the phrase “How to build a fire.”
When you look at the search results, you’ll see that Google has shared a numbered list of steps that they have taken directly from the Lifehacker blog. And immediately under the list that they have taken from Lifehacker is a link to the post on their website.
Now you might be thinking, “Google is stealing my content! Nobody’s going to read this article on my website because they shared it on the search page.” And you’d be wrong. Google is only sharing a portion of your content on the search results page and then telling visitors to click through to your site in order to read the full post.
This is a very good thing for website owners. It gives searchers an immediate taste of your content and it increases engagement. The searcher will know exactly what they are getting before they even visit your site. So they’re going to stay on your website longer to learn about whatever it is you’re trying to teach them. Our example was learning how to build a fire, but you would answer questions specific to your industry.
So, creating valuable content that answers questions is an awesome way to increase your organic traffic. Not only will you attain a #1 spot at the top of the Google search results, but you’re also going to get fantastic free traffic that actually wants to come to your website to learn what you are teaching. This is win-win and a phenomenal way to improve organic traffic and results.
2. Localized Pages Rank Well in Google
This is especially important for local business owners looking to increase their organic traffic. By creating localized pages on your website (i.e. Gold Coast locksmiths) you are creating an excellent opportunity to take advantage of local search engine traffic.
Google can’t wait to showcase local companies that understand search engine optimization. Not only would they love to rank your pages highly in the local listings, but they want to do this to provide their visitors with the best user experience.
If somebody is going to search Google for a Gold Coast locksmith, you bet that they would like to provide as many excellent options as possible to their visitors. So target local keyword phrases as often as possible in order to get high rankings on the local Google search pages. This will create a steady flow of organic visitors checking out your website.
3. Mobile Compatibility Is a Must for Today’s Business Owner
It’s possible that this is the most important thing to take away from the information that we are sharing today.
When people are out in the world and going about their day, they will regularly check their phones and mobile devices as they are taking care of their daily chores. People use the search feature on their mobile devices to find restaurants, gardening supplies stores, pet sitters and so much more. Roughly half of the searches taking place today are done on mobile devices, and most people will use the local search engines to find a service provider in their area before hiring them.
Responsive web design is now so important it is a ranking factor. If your site is not mobile friendly you may find that your rankings on the search engines my slip. In fact Google sees this as so important they started issuing mobile usability notices in December 2014 to webmasters via Google Webmasters Tools last month
This is how to improve organic traffic without doing much more than what you are already doing. Implement these changes and watch your organic traffic grow to the next level.
