Search engines such as Google, Yahoo and Bing allow businesses of any size to place ads online. The largest search engine of them all, Google, calls this Adwords or Pay Per Click (PPC) advertising.

The basic premise of advertising on Google is that your ad is shown when someone does a search for a keyword that you have included in your campaign. However, it is only when someone clicks on your ad that you will be charged.

Google is keen to line their own pockets so place the first 3 PPC advertisments above the free organic search.  Below is a diagram for those who are not sure where the PPC adverts sit.  If there are more than 3 advertisers for a particular keyword then the remaining PPC advertisments sit down the right hand side.  Highly competitive keywords can have pages of Google PPC advertisements – all sitting on the right hand side.

One of the great things about Google Adwords is that very quick results can be obtained. If you’ve been in business for a while you’ll know that advertising can be hit and miss at the best of times. Therefore something that works quickly can be very attractive.

Google Adwords can be highly targeted to your potential customers. You get to choose what keywords you want to use and where and when your ads will be shown.

It is relatively easy to set up a Google Adwords account. What is not as simple is setting up the account to achieve optimal results. In fact Google wants accounts to be set up in a certain way and rewards advertisers who do it the “Google way” with higher ad positions and lower click costs.

We’ve been doing Google Adwords management for over 3 years now and these ads have had a huge impact for our clients.
